Matthew: Chapter 04

4:1 THen was Iesus led awaye of the spirite into wildernes/ to be tēpted of the deuyll. Then was Iesus led awaye of the sprite: into wyldernes: to be tempted of the deuell. 4:2 And when he had fasted fourty dayes & fourty nightes/ he was afterward an hungred. And when he had fasted fourty dayes and fourty nyghtes, he was at the last an hungred. And when he had fasted fourty dayes & fourty nightes/ he was afterward an hungred. And when he had fasted forty dayes and forty nightes, he was afterward an hongred.
4:3 Then came to him the tēpter/ & sayde: yf thou be the sonne of God/ commaunde that these stones be made breed. And when the tempter came to hym, he sayde: yf thou be the sonne of God commaunde, that these stones be made bread: Then came to him the tēpter/ & sayde: yf thou be the sonne of God/ commaunde that these stones be made breed. Then came to him the tempter, & saied, if thou be the Sonne of God, commande that these stones be made bread.
4:4 He answered and sayde: yt is wrytten/ man shall not lyue by brede onlye/ but by euery worde that proceadeth out of the mouth of God. 4:5 Then the deuyll toke him vp into the holy cite/ & set him on a pinacle of the tēple/ Then the deuyll taketh him vp into the holy cytie, & setteth hym on a pynacle of the temple, Then the deuyll toke him vp into the holy cite/ & set him on a pinacle of the tēple/ Then the deuil toke him vp into the holy Citie, and set him on a pinacle of the temple.
4:6 & sayde vnto him: yf thou be the sonne of God/ cast thy selfe doune. For it is wrytten: he shall geue his angels charge ouer the/ and with their handes they shall holde the vp/ that thou dashe not thy fote agaynst a stone. and sayeth vnto him: yf thou be the sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe headling. For it is written he shall geue hys angels charge ouer the, & with their handes they shal holde the vp, lest at any tyme thou dash thy fote agaynst a stone. & sayde vnto him: yf thou be the sonne of God/ cast thy selfe doune. For it is wrytten: he shall geue his angels charge ouer the/ and with their handes they shall holde the vp/ that thou dashe not thy fote agaynst a stone. And sayd vnto him, If thou be the Sonne of God, cast thy self downe: For it is written, that he shal geue his Angels charge ouer thee, and with their handes they shal hold thee vp, lest at any time thou shouldest da–he thy fote against a stone.
4:7 And Iesus sayde to him/ yt is wrytten also: Thou shalt not tempte thy Lorde God. And Iesus sayde to hym: it is wrytten agayne: Thou shalt not tempte the Lorde thy God. And Iesus sayde to him/ yt is wrytten also: Thou shalt not tempte thy Lorde God. Iesus said vnto him, It is written also, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
4:8 The deuyll toke him vp agayne and ledde him in to an excedinge hye mountayne/ & shewed him all the kingdomes of the worlde/ & all the glorie of them/ Agayne, the deuel taketh him vp into an exceading hye mountayne, and sheweth him all the kyngdomes of the world, and the glory of them, The deuyll toke him vp agayne and ledde him in to an excedinge hye mountayne/ & shewed him all the kingdomes of the worlde/ & all the glorie of them/ The deuil toke him vp againe vnto an exceading hye mountaine, and shewed him all the kingdomes of the worlde, and the glorie of them.
4:9 & sayde to him: all these will I geue the/ yf thou wilt fall doune and worship me. and sayeth vnto hym: all these will I geue the, yf thou wylt fall downe, & worshyppe me. & sayde to him: all these will I geue the/ yf thou wilt fall doune and worship me. And said to him, Al these wil I geue thee, if thou fallyng downe wilt worship me.
4:10 Then sayde Iesus vnto him: Auoyde Satan. For it is wrytten/ thou shalt worship the Lorde thy God/ & him only shalt thou serue. Then sayeth Iesus vnto hym Auoyde Satan. For it is written: Thou shalt worshyp the Lorde thy God, and hym onely shalt thou serue. Then sayde Iesus vnto him: Auoyde Satan. For it is wrytten/ thou shalt worship the Lorde thy God/ & him only shalt thou serue. Then said Iesus vnto him, Auoyde Satan, For it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, & him onely shalt thou serue.
4:11 Then the deuyll left him/ and beholde/ the angels came and ministred vnto him. Then the deuyl leaueth him, and behold, the angels came, & ministed vnto him. Then the deuyll left him/ and beholde/ the angels came and ministred vnto him. Then the deoil left him: and beholde the Angels came and ministred vnto him.
4:12 When Iesus had hearde that Iohn was taken/ he departed into Galile When Iesus had heard that Iohn was taken, he departed into Galyle, When Iesus had hearde that Iohn was taken/ he departed into Galile And when Iesus had heard that Iohn was taken, he retourned into Galile.
4:13 & left Nazareth/ & went & dwelt in Capernaum/ which is a cite vpō the see/ in the coostes of zabulon & Nephtalim/ and left Nazareth, and went and dwelt in Capernaum: whych is a cytie vpon the see coast; in the borders of Zabulon & Neptalim: & left Nazareth/ & went & dwelt in Capernaum/ which is a cite vpō the see/ in the coostes of zabulon & Nephtalim/ And leauing Nazareth, went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is nere the sea in the borders of Zabulon, and Nephtalim.
4:14 to fulfill that which was spokē by Esay the Prophet/ sayinge: that it myght be fulfilled which was spoken by Esay the prophet, saying: to fulfill that which was spokē by Esay the Prophet/ sayinge: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaie the Prophet, saying,
4:15 The londe of zabulō & Nephtalim/ the waye of the see beyonde Iordan/ Galile of the Gentyls/ The lande of Zabulon & Neptalim, by the waye of the see beyonde Iordan, Galile of the Gentils: The londe of zabulō & Nephtalim/ the waye of the see beyonde Iordan/ Galile of the Gentyls/ The land of Zabulon and the land of Nephtalim the waie of the sea beyond Iordan, Galile of the Gentiles:
4:16 the people which sat in darcknes/ sawe great lyght/ & to them which sate in the region and shadowe of deeth/ lyght is begone to shyne. the people which satt in darckenesse and in the shadowe of death, sawe great light: & to them which sat in the region & shadowe of death, is the light sprong vp. the people which sat in darcknes/ sawe great lyght/ & to them which sate in the region and shadowe of deeth/ lyght is begone to shyne. The people which sate in darknes sawe great light: and to them which sate in the region and shadowe of death, ligth is begone to shyne.
4:17 From that tyme Iesus begāne to preache/ and to saye: repent/ for the kyngdome of heauen is at honde. From that tyme, Iesus beganne to preache, and to saye: repent, for the kyngdome of heauen is at hande. From that tyme Iesus begāne to preache/ and to saye: repent/ for the kyngdome of heauen is at honde. From that time Iesus began to preache, and to saie, Amende your lyues, for the kingdome of heauen is at hand.
4:18 As Iesus walked by the see of Galile he sawe two brethren: Simon which was called Peter/ and Andrew his brother/ castynge a neet into the see/ for they were fisshers/ As Iesus walked by the see of Galile he sawe two brethren: Symon, which was called Peter, & Andrew his brother, castyng a neet into the see (for they were fisshers) As Iesus walked by the see of Galile he sawe two brethren: Simon which was called Peter/ and Andrew his brother/ castynge a neet into the see/ for they were fisshers/ And Iesus walkyng by the sea of Galile, sawe two brethern, Simon which was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, castinge a net into the sea: for they were fyshers.
4:19 & he sayde vnto them/ folowe me/ and I will make you fisshers of men. and he sayth vnto them: folowe me, and I wyll make you fisshers of men. & he sayde vnto them/ folowe me/ and I will make you fisshers of men. And he said vnto them, Folowe me, & I will make you fishers of men.
4:20 And they strayght waye lefte their nettes/ and folowed him. And they streyght waye lefte the nettes, and folowed hym. And they strayght waye lefte their nettes/ and folowed him. And they strayght way leauing their nettes, folowed him.
4:21 And he went forth from thence/ and sawe other two brethren/ Iames the sonne of zebede/ and Iohn his brother/ in the shippe with zebede their father/ mendinge their nettes/ & called them. And whan he was gone forth fro thence, he sawe other two brethren, Iames the sonne of Zebede, & Iohn his brother, in the shyp wt Zebede their father, mending their nettes, & he called them. And he went forth from thence/ and sawe other two brethren/ Iames the sonne of zebede/ and Iohn his brother/ in the shippe with zebede their father/ mendinge their nettes/ & called them. And when he was gone forth from thence, he sawe other two brethern, lames the sonne of Zebede, and Iohn his brother in a ship wyth Zebede theyr father, mending their nettes: and he called them.
4:22 And they without taryinge lefte the shyp and their father and folowed him. And they immediatly lefte the shyp and theyr father, and folowed hym. And they without taryinge lefte the shyp and their father and folowed him. And they without tariyng leauing the ship and their father, folowed him.
4:23 And Iesus went aboute all Galile/ teachyng in their synagoges/ and preachynge the gospell of the kyngdome/ and healed all maner of sicknes/ and all maner dyseases amonge the people. And Iesus went about all Galile, teachynge in their synagoges, & preachynge the gospel of the kingdome, and healing all maner of sycknes, & all maner of disease amonge the people. And Iesus went aboute all Galile/ teachyng in their synagoges/ and preachynge the gospell of the kyngdome/ and healed all maner of sicknes/ and all maner dyseases amonge the people. And Iesus went about all Galile, teaching in their Synagoges, and preaching the gospel of the kingdome, and healing all matter of sicknesses, and all maner of diseases among the people.
4:24 And his fame spreed abroode through out all Syria. And they brought vnto him all sicke people that were taken with diuers dyseases and gripinges/ and them that were possessed with deuils/ and those which were lunatyke/ and those that had the palsie: and he healed them. And hys fame spreed abroade throughout al Siria. And they brought vnto him all syck people that were taken with dyuers diseases and grypynges, and them that were possessed with deuyls: and those which were lunatyke, & those that had the palsye: & he healed them. And his fame spreed abroode through out all Syria. And they brought vnto him all sicke people that were taken with diuers dyseases and gripinges/ and them that were possessed with deuils/ and those which were lunatyke/ and those that had the palsie: and he healed them. And his fame spied abroad through all Siria: and they broght vnto him al sycke people, that were taken wyth diuers diseases and grypinges, and them that were possessed with deuils, & those which were lunatike, and those that had the palsey: and he healed them.
4:25 And ther folowed him a greate nombre of people/ from Galile/ & from the ten cities/ and from Ierusalem/ and from Iury/ & from the regions that lye beyonde Iordan. And ther folowed hym great multitudes of people, from Galile, and from the ten cytes, and from Ierusalem, and from Iewry, and from the regions that lye beyonde Iordan. And ther folowed him a greate nombre of people/ from Galile/ & from the ten cities/ and from Ierusalem/ and from Iury/ & from the regions that lye beyonde Iordan. And there folowed him great numbres of people from Galile, and from Decapolis, and from Ierusalem, and from Iurie, and from the regions that lye beyond Iordan.
