1:1 FOr as moche as many have taken in hond to compyle a treates off thoo thyngſ/ which are surely knowen amonge vs/ FOr as moche as many have takē inhand to compyle a treates of thoo thinges/ which are surely knowen amonge vs/ FOr as moche as many haue takē in hād to compyle a treates of tho thinges/ which are surely knowen amonge vs/ FOR so moch as many haue taken in hande, to set forth ye wordes of the actes that are come to passe amonge vs,
1:2 even as they declared them vnto vs/ which from the begynynge sawe them with their eyes/ and were mīsters at the doyng: even as they declared them vnto vs/ which from the beginnynge sawe them their selves/ and were ministers at the doyng: euē as they declared thē vnto vs which from the beginninge sawe them their selues/ and were ministers at the doinge: like as they delyuered thē vnto vs, which from the begynnynge sawe them their selues, and were mynisters of the worde,
1:3 I determined also/ as sone as I had searched out diligently all thingſ from the begynynge/ that thē I wolde wryte vnto the/ goode Theophilus/ I determined also/ assone as I had searched out diligently all thinges from the beginnynge/ that then I wolde wryte vnto the/ good Theophilus: I determined also/ assone as I had searched out diligently all thinges from the beginninge/ that then I wolde wryte vnto the/ good Theophilus: I thought it good (after that I had diligently searched out all from the begynnynge) to wryte the same orderly vnto the (good Theophilus)

1:5 IN the tyme of Herode kynge of iewry/ there was a certayne prest named Zacarias/ off the course of Abie. And his wyfe was of the doughters of Aaron: And her name was Elizabeth. THere was in the dayes of Herode kynge of Iurie/ a certayne prest named Zacharias/ of ye course of Abia. And his wyfe was of ye doughters of Aaron: And her name was Elizabeth. THere was in the dayes of Herode the kynge of Iurie a certayne Preste named zacharias/ of the course of Abia. And his wyfe was of the doughters of Aaron: & her name was Elizabeth. IN the tyme of Herode kynge of Iewry, there was a prest named Zachary of the course of Abia: and his wife of the doughters of Aaron, & hir name Elizabeth.
1:6 Booth were perfect before god/ and walked in all the lawes ād ordinacions of the lorde that no mā coulde fynde fawte with them. 1:7 And they had no childe/ because that Elisabeth was barren/ And booth were wele stricken in age. And they had no chylde/ because that Elizabeth was barrē and booth were well stricken in age. 1:9 (accordinge to the custome of the prestes office) his lott was to bren odourſ/ And went into the tempte of the lorde/ (accordinge to the custome of the prestes office) his lot was to bourne incēce. And wēt into ye tēple of ye Lorde (accordinge to the custome of the Prestes office) his lot was to bourne incense. And he went into the temple of the Lorde/ (acordinge to the custome of the presthode) it fell to his lott to burne incense.
1:10 and all the multitude of people were with out in their prayers whill the odourſ were abrēnynge. & the whoale multitude of ye people were with out in prayer whill the incense was aburnynge. and the whoale multitude of the people were without in prayer whill the incense was aburninge. And he wente in to the temple of the LORDE, and the whole multitude of the people was without in prayer, whyle the incense was aburnynge.
1:11 There appered vnto him the lordſ āgell/ stondinge on the right syde off the aultte off odours. And ther appered vnto him an angell of the lorde stondinge on the ryght syde of the altare of incense. And ther appered vnto him an angell of the Lorde stondinge on the ryght syde of the altare of incense. And the angell of the LORDE appeared vnto him, and stode on the right syde of the altare of incēse.
1:12 And when Zacharias sawe hym/ he was abasshed and feare cam on hym. And when zacharias sawe him/ he was abasshed/ and feare came on him. And when zacharias sawe him/ he was abasshed/ and feare came on him. And whan Zachary sawe him, he was abasshed, & there came a feare vpon him.
1:13 The angell sayde vnto hym: feare not Zacary: ffor thy prayer is herde: And thy wyfe Helyzabeth shall beare the a sonne/ and thou shalt call his name Ihon/ And the angell sayde vnto him: feare not Zachary/ for thy prayer is hearde: And thy wyfe Elizabeth shall beare ye a sonne/ & thou shalt call his name Iohn/ And the angel sayde vnto him: feare not zachary/ for thy prayer is hearde: And thy wyfe Elizabeth shall beare the a sonne/ and thou shalt call his name Iohn/ But the angell sayde vnto him: Feare not Zachary, for thy prayer is herde. And yi wife Elizabeth shal beare the a sonne, whose name thou shalt call Ihon,
1:14 And thou shaltt have ioye and gladnes/ And many shall reioyce att his birth. and thou shalt have ioye and gladnes/ and many shall reioyce at his birth. & thou shalt haue ioye and gladnes/ and many shall reioyce at his byrth. & thou shalt haue ioye and gladnesse: and many shal reioyce at his byrth,
1:15 For he shalbe greate in the sight off god/ and shall nether drynke wyne ner stronge drynke. And he shalbe filled with the holy goost evē ī his mothers wombe: For he shalbe greate in the sight of the lorde/ and shall nether drinke wyne ner stronge drinke. And he shalbe filled with the holy goost/ even in his mothers wombe: For he shalbe greate in the sight of of the Lorde/ & shall nether drincke wyne ner stronge drincke. And he shalbe filled with the holy goost/ euen in his mothers wombe: for he shal be greate before the LORDE. Wyne and stronge drynke shal he not drynke. And he shalbe fylled wt the holy goost, euen in his mothers wombe.
1:16 And many off the chyldren off Israhel shall he tourne to their lorde God. & many of the chyldren of Israel shall he tourne to their Lorde God. & many of the chyldren of Israel shall he tourne to their Lorde God. And many of the children of Israel shal he turne vnto the LORDE their God.
1:17 And he shall goo before hym in the sprete and power off Helyas to tourne the herttſ off the fathers to their chyldren/ and the vnbeleverſ to the wisdom off the iuste men: to make the people redy ffor the lorde. And he shall goo before him in the sprete & power of Helyas/ to tourne the hertes of the fathers to the chyldren/ & the vnbelevers to the wysdom of the iuste men: to make the people redy for the Lorde. And he shall go before him in the sprite and power of Helyas/ to tourne the hertes of the fathers to the chyldren/ & the vnbeleuers to the wysdome of the iuste men: to make the people redy for the Lorde. 1:18 And Zacary sayde vnto the angell: Wherby shall I knowe this? seinge that I am olde/ and my wyfe wele stricken in yeares. And Zacharias sayde vnto ye angell: Wher by shall I knowe this? seinge that I am olde and my wyfe well stricken in yeares. And zacharias sayde vnto the angell: wher by shall I knowe this? seinge that I am olde and my wyfe well stricken in yeares. And Zachary sayde vnto the Angel: Wherby shal I knowe this? For I am olde, and my wife well stricken in age.
1:19 And the angell answered/ and sayde vnto hym: I am Gabriell that stonde in the presens off God/ and am sentt to speake vnto the: and to shewe the this glad tydingſ. And the angell answered and sayde vnto him: I am Gabriell that stonde in the presens of God/ and am sent to speake vnto the: and to shewe the these glad tydinges. And the angell answered and sayde vnto him: I am Gabriel that stonde in the presens of God/ & am sent to speake vnto the: and to shewe the these gladtydinges. The angell answered, and sayde vnto him: I am Gabriell that stonde before God, and am sent to speake vnto the, and to shewe the these glad tydinges.
1:20 And take hede thou shalt be domme/ and not albe to speake vntyll the tyme that these thingſ be performed/ because thou belevedst not my wordſ/ which shalbe fulfilled in there season. And beholde thou shalt be domme/ and not able to speake vntyll the tyme that these thinges be performed/ because thou belevedst not my wordes which shalbe fulfilled in their season. And beholde thou shalt be domme/ and not able to speake/ vntyll the tyme that these thinges be performed/ because thou beleuedst not my wordes which shalbe fulfilled in their season. And beholde, thou shalt be domme, and not able to speake, vntyll the daye that this come to passe, because thou hast not beleued my wordes, which shalbe fulfylled in their season.
1:21 And the people wayted for Zacareas/ and mervelled that he taryed in the tēple. And the people wayted for zacharias/ & mervelled that he taryed in the temple. And the people wayted for zacharias & merueyled that he taryed in the temple. And the people wayted for Zachary, and marueyled, that he taried so longe in the tēple.
1:22 Whē he cā oute he coulde not speake vnto them. And they perceaved/ that he had sene some vision in the temple. And he beckened vnto them/ and remayned speachlesse. And whē he cam oute/ he could not speake vnto them. Wherby they perceaved that he had sene some vision in the temple. And he beckened vnto them/ and remayned speachlesse. 1:23 And it fortuned/ as sone as the tyme off his office was oute/ he departed home in to his awne housse. And it fortuned whā the tyme of his office was out, he wente home in to his house.
1:24 Affter thoose dayes/ his wife Elizabeth conceaved/ and hid her silfe .v. monethes/ saynge: And after thoose dayes/ his wyfe Elizabeth cōceaved/ & hyd her sylfe .v. monethes sayinge: And after those dayes/ his wyfe Elizabeth conceaued/ & hyd her selfe fyue monethes sayinge: And after those dayes Elizabeth his wife conceaued, and hyd hir self fyue monethes, & sayde:
1:25 This wyse hath god dealte with me ī the dayes when he loked on me/ to take from me the rebuke that I suffered a monge men. 1:26 And in the .vj. moneth the angell Gabryel was sent from god vnto a cite off galile/ named nazareth/ And in ye .vi. moneth ye angell Gabriel was sent frō god vnto a cite of Galile/ named Nazareth/ And in the sixte moneth the angell Gabriel was sent from God vnto a cyte of Galile/ named Nazareth/ And in the sixte moneth was the angell Gabriel sent from God in to a cite of Galile, called Nazareth,
1:27 to a virgin spoused to a man/ whose name was Ioseph/ of the housse of David/ and the virgīs name was Mary. to a virgin spoused to a man whose name was Ioseph/ of ye housse of David/ & ye virgins name was Mary. to a virgin spoused to a man whose name was Ioseph/ of the housse of Dauid/ & the virgins name was Mary. vnto a virgin that was spoused vnto a man, whose name was Ioseph, of the house of Dauid, and the virgins name was Mary.
1:28 And the angell wēt in vnto her/ and sayde: Hayle full of grace/ the lorde is with the: blessed arte thou amonge wemen. And ye angell went in vnto her/ & sayde: Hayle full of grace/ ye Lorde is with ye: blessed arte thou amonge wemen. And the angell went in vnto her/ and sayde: Hayle full of grace/ the Lorde is with the: blessed arte thou amonge wemen. And the angell came in vnto her, and sayde: Hayle thou full of grace, the LORDE is with the: blessed art thou amonge wemen.
1:29 When she sawe hym/ she was abasshed att his saynge: and cast in her mynde what maner of salutaciō that shulde be. When she sawe him/ she was abasshed at his sayinge: & cast in her mynde what maner of salutacion yt shuld be. When she sawe him she was abasshed at his sayinge: & cast in her mynde what maner of salutaciō that shuld be. Whā she sawe him, she was abasshed at his sayenge, and thought: What maner of salutacion is this?
1:30 And the angell sayde vnto her: feare not Mary/ thou hast founde grace with god. And ye angell sayde vnto her: feare not Mary: for thou hast founde grace wt god. And the angell sayde vnto her: feare not Mary: for thou hast foūde grace with God. And the angell sayde vnto her: Feare not Mary, for thou hast foūde grace with God.
1:31 Loo: thou shalt conceave in thy wombe/ and shalt beare a childe/ and shalt call his name Iesus. Loo: thou shalt cōceave in thy wombe/ & shalt beare a sonne/ & shalt call his name Iesus. 1:32 He shalbe greate/ and shalbe called the sonne off the hyest. And the lorde god shall geve vnto hym the seate off his father David/ He shalbe greate/ & shalbe called the sonne of the hyest. And ye lorde God shall geve vnto him the seate of his father David/ He shalbe greate/ & shalbe called the sonne of the hyest. And the Lorde God shall geue vnto him the seate of his father Dauid/ he shalbe greate, & shalbe called ye sonne of the Hyest. And the LORDE God shal geue him ye seate of Dauid his father,
1:33 And he shall raygne over the house off Iacob forever/ and of his kyngdom shalbe none ende. & he shall raygne over ye housse of Iacob for ever/ & of his kyngdome shalbe none ende. and he shall raygne ouer the housse of Iacob for euer/ and of his kyngdome shalbe none ende. & he shal be kinge ouer ye house of Iacob for euer & there shalbe no ende of his kyngdome.
1:34 Thē sayd Mary vnto the angell: Howe shall this be/ seinge that I knowe no mā? Then sayd Mary vnto ye angell: How shall this be/ seinge I knowe not a man? Then sayde Marye vnto the angel: How shall this be seinge I knowe not a man? Then sayde Mary vnto the angell: How shal this be, seinge I knowe not a mā?
1:35 And the angell answered/ ād sayd vnto her: The holy goost shall come apon the/ and the power off the hyest shall over shaddowe the. Therfore also that holy thynge which shalbe borne/ shalbe called the sonne of god. And ye angell answered & sayd vnto her: The holy goost shall come apon the/ & ye power of ye hyest shall over shaddowe ye. Therfore also yt holy thinge which shalbe borne/ shalbe called ye sonne of god. And the angel answered & sayde vnto her: The holy goost shall come vpon the/ & the power of the hyest shall ouer shaddone the. Therfore also that holy thinge which shalbe borne/ shalbe called the sonne of God. The angell answered, & sayde vnto her: The holy goost shal come vpon the, & the power of the Hyest shal ouershadowe the. Therfore that Holy also which shalbe borne (of the) shalbe called the sonne of God.
1:36 And marke/ thy cosen Elizabeth/ hath also conceaved a sonne ī her olde age. And this is the .vj. moneth to her/ which was called barren/ And beholde/ thy cosen Elizabeth she hath also conceaved a sonne in her age. And this is hyr sixte moneth/ though she be called barren: And beholde thy cosen Elizabeth she hath also conceaued a sonne in her age. And this is hyr sixte moneth/ though she be called barren: And beholde, thy cosen Elizabeth she also hath cōceaued a sonne in hir olde age, & this is the sixte moneth of her, which is reported to be baren:
1:37 for with god shall nothinge be vnpossible. for wt god can nothinge be vnpossible. for with God can nothinge be vnpossible. for wt God is nothinge vnpossyble.
1:38 Mary sayd: beholde the honde mayden off the lorde/ be it vnto me even as thou hast sayde. And the angell departed from her. And Mary sayd: beholde ye honde mayden of ye lorde/ be it vnto me even as thou hast sayde. And the angell departed from her. And Mary sayde: beholde the honde maydē of the Lorde/ be it vnto me euen as thou hast sayde. And the angel departed from her. And Mary sayde: Beholde, here am I the handmaydē of the LORDE: be it vnto me, as thou hast sayde. And the angell departed frō her.
1:39 Mary arose in thoose dayes/ and went in to the mountayns with hast into a cite off iewry/ And Mary arose in thoose dayes/ & went into ye mountayns wt hast/ into a cite of Iurie And Mary arose in those dayes/ & went into the mountayns with hast/ into a citie of Iurie/ And Mary arose in those dayes, and wente in to the moūtaynes with haist, into ye cite of Iewry,
1:40 ād entred in to the house off Zacary/ ād saluted Elizabeth. & entred into the housse of zachary/ & saluted Elizabeth. & entred into the housse of zachary/ & saluted Elizabeth. and came in to ye house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.
1:41 And it fortuned/ as Elizabeth herde the salutacion of Mary/ the babe spronge in her belly. And Elizabeth was filled with the holy goost/ And it fortuned/ as Elizabeth hearde ye salutacion of Mary/ the babe spronge in her belly. And Elizabeth was filled with the holy goost/ And it fortuned/ as Elizabeth hearde the salutacion of Mary/ the babe sprōge in her belly. And Elizabeth was filled with the holy goost/ And it fortuned as Elizabeth herde the salutacion of Mary, the babe sprange in hir wombe. And Elizabeth was fylled with the holy goost,
1:42 and cryed with a loude voyce/ and sayde: Blessed arte thou among wemen/ and blessed is the frute off thy wombe. and cryed with a loude voyce/ & sayde: Blessed arte thou amonge wemen/ and blessed is the frute of thy wombe. & cryed with a loude voyce/ & sayde: Blessed arte thou amonge the wemen/ & blessed is the frute of thy wombe. & cried loude, and sayde: Blessed art thou amōge wemen, and blessed is the frute of yi wombe.
1:43 And whens hapeneth this to me/ that the mother off my lorde shulde come to me? And whence hapeneth this to me/ that the mother of my Lorde shuld come to me? And whence hapeneth this to me that the mother of my Lorde shulde come to me? And how happeneth this to me, that ye mother of my LORDE commeth vnto me?
1:44 Loo/ as sone as the voyce of thy salutacion sownded in myne eares/ the babe lepte in my belly for ioye. 1:45 And blessed arte thou that belevedst/ For thoose thingſ shalbe performed which were tolde the from the lorde. And blessed arte thou that belevedst: for thoose thinges shalbe performed wich were tolde ye from the lorde. And blessed arte thou that beleuedst: for those thinges shalbe performed which were tolde the from the lorde. And blessed art thou that hast beleued, for ye thinges shalbe perfourmed, which were tolde ye frō ye LORDE.
1:46 And Mary sayde. My soule magnifieth the lorde. And Mary sayde. My soule magnifieth the Lorde. And Mary sayde: My soule magnifieth the Lorde. And Mary sayde: My soule magnifieth the LORDE.
1:47 And my sprete reioyseth in god my savioure/ And my sprete reioyseth in god my savioure And my sprete reioyseth in god my sauiour And my sprete reioyseth ī God my Sauioure.
1:48 For he hath loked on the povre degre off his hōde maydē. Beholde nowe from hens forth shall all generacions call me blessed. For he hath loked on the povre degre of his honde maydē. Beholde now from hence forth shall all generacions call me blessed. For he hath loked on the poure degre of his honde maydē. Beholde now frō hence forth shall all generacions call me blessed. For he hath loked vpō the lowe degre of his hande mayde. Beholde, frō hence forth shal all generacions call me blessed.
1:49 For he that is myghty hath done to me greate thingſ/ and blessed ys his name: For he that is myghty hath done to me greate thinges/ and holye is his name. For he that is mighty hath done to me greate thinges/ and holye is his name. For he that is Mightie, hath done greate thinges vnto me, and holy is his name.
1:50 And hys mercy is always on thē that feare him thorow oute all generacions. And his mercy is on them that feare him thorow oute all generacions. And his mercy is on them that feare him thorow oute all generacions. And his mercy endureth thorow out all generacions, vpon them that feare him.
1:51 He hath shewed strengthe with his arme/ he hath scattered them that are proude in the ymaginacion of their hertſ. 1:55 Even as he promised to oure fathers/ Abrahā and to his seede for ever. Even as he promised to oure fathers/ Abraham and to his seede for ever. Euen as he promised to oure fathers/ Abraham and to his seede for euer. Euen as he promysed vnto oure fathers, Abraham and to his sede foreuer.
1:56 And mary aboode with her iij. monethes/ And retourned home agayne. And mary aboode with hyr aboute a .iii. monethes/ & retourned agayne to hyr awne housse. And mary aboode with hyr aboute a .iii monethes/ & retourned agayne to hyr awne housse. And Mary abode with her aboute thre monethes, and then returned home agayne.
1:57 Elizabethſ tyme was come that she shulde be delyvered/ And she brought forth a sonne. Elizabethes tyme was come that she shuld be delyvered and she brought forth a sonne. 1:58 And her neghbourſ and her cosins herde tell howe/ the lorde had magnified hys mercy vppon her/ and they reioysed with her. 1:59 And hit fortuned the eyght daye: they cā to circūcise the childe: ād called his name Zacari after the name of his father/ And it fortuned ye eyght daye: they cam to circumcise the chylde: and called his name zacharias/ after the name of his father. And it fortuned the eyght daye: they came to circumcise the chylde: and called his name Zacharias/ after the name of his father. And it fortuned vpon the eight daye, they came to circumcyse ye childe, and called him Zachary after his father:

And the chylde grew and wexed stronge in sprete/ & was in wyldernes/ tyll the daye cam when he shuld shewe him sylfe vnto the Israhelites.
